Renewables for energy transitions training
This intensive 4-day INETTT training on renewables and energy transitions took part as part of INETTT’s power sector Working Group. With the diversity of power market structures worldwide, sharing experiences allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of how regional contexts shape energy transitions across technical, social, economic and political dimensions.
About this training
Participants engaged in:
- Building a common foundation by exploring energy systems and electricity market basics.
- Examining different market designs – from centralised to liberalised – and their impact on renewable integration. Discussions included variable renewable energy effects on market prices, merit order, “cannibalisation” effects and support mechanisms like feed-in tariffs and contracts for difference that incentivise clean energy investments.
- Focusing on sector coupling: linking power with transport, buildings and industry to use renewables more efficiently across sectors for deeper decarbonisation.
- Addressing the socioeconomic and sociopolitical pillars of transformation, emphasising justice, equity and inclusiveness to ensure successful energy transitions.
The training’s holistic approach with experienced trainers from around the globe integrated technology, policy and social equity to support a just transition that accelerates renewables while responsibly phasing out fossil fuels.
