INETTT at BETD 2023: Beyond net zero
National energy transitions and international cooperation: Insights from six countries and the European Green Deal
About this event
As part of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2023, INETTT hosted an in-person partner event that explored the planning, implementation and core components of national clean energy transitions across a diverse set of countries: Viet Nam, Poland, Japan, Mexico, South Korea and Brazil.
The event provided a comparative look at how different national contexts shape the pace and structure of the energy transition, highlighting policy frameworks, governance models, technological choices and social dimensions. Each country’s approach reflected its own political economy, development priorities and institutional capacity. Still, common challenges and opportunities emerged around financing, system integration and just transition measures.
The session also examined the European Green Deal as a framework for accelerated transformation in the EU and a potential platform for international cooperation. Discussions focused on how global partnerships could support more aligned and ambitious climate action, particularly through knowledge exchange, trade policy and joint planning efforts.
The event underscored the value of cross-country learning and the important role of think tanks in shaping evidence-based, inclusive energy transition strategies.
